October 2018 marked the 10th anniversary of the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (the “CRPD Committee”). This Committee composed of 18 elected and independent disability rights experts was established in October 2008 to monitor the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (the “CRPD”) and its Optional Protocol both adopted on 13 December 2006 and in force since 3 May 2008.
This report gives an overview of the last ten years of work of the Committee and how the provisions of the CRPD must be understood.
