According to the Observatory on Disability and Human Rights (ODDH), the risk-of-poverty or social exclusion rate in 2021 was 30.5% for households with people with disabilities — almost double the estimate for the general population (18.8%). “Clearly, we have a population that is economically disadvantaged and always at greater risk of poverty, not least because it has higher living costs,” comments Tiago Fortuna, founder of Access Lab and a person with a physical disability who has used a wheelchair all his life.
