On December 2nd, the Disability and Human Rights Observatory (ODDH) took part in the event ‘Portugal and the Rights of Persons with Disabilities: perceptions and challenges’, organized by the National Mechanism for Monitoring the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (Me-CRPD). The event was held in the António de Almeida Santos Auditorium, in the New Building of the Assembly of the Republic.

During the session, the ODDH team presented the preliminary results of the study ‘Attitudes and Perceptions of the Portuguese Adult Population about Disability’, promoted by the National Mechanism for Monitoring the Implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and carried out by the ODDH of the Institute of Social and Political Sciences of the University of Lisbon (ODDH).

This study sought to understand what Portuguese society thinks about disability. To this end, a telephone survey was conducted with a representative sample of the Portuguese population aged between 18 and 65. The fieldwork, carried out from October 1 to October 30, 2025, was conducted by E.M. Estudos de Mercado, and 1,000 valid responses were collected across mainland Portugal and the islands, with a margin of error of +/- 3.10% at a 95% confidence level.
