EC | How to put reasonable accommodation into practice – Guide of promising practices

Capa - Como colocar em prática as adaptações razoáveis - guia de práticas promissoras Capa - Como colocar em prática as adaptações razoáveis - guia de práticas promissoras

To inform EU citizens with disabilities of their rights, in May 2019, the European Commission launched the #EUvsDiscrimination campaign. A strand of the campaign focused explicitly on reasonable accommodation for persons with disabilities. This guide presents a group of promising practices introduced by employers from both the public and private sectors.

Reasonable accommodation is any change to a job or work environment that is needed to enable a person with a disability to apply, to perform and to advance in job functions, or undertake training on an equal basis with others and one can and should request the introduction of such accommodations if they have a disability and believe their workplace can be adapted.

The technical solutions might include:
• Installing elevators or ramps.
• Putting office furniture at an appropriate height.
• Installing computer software such as screen readers, screen magnifiers or speech recognition software, etc.
• Working arrangements, like providing flexible working hours, teleworking, etc.
• Awareness-raising measures so that persons with disabilities can perform their job in a supportive working environment.
