Employment is one of the main problems faced by persons with disabilities and a recent study conducted by the Disability and Human Rights Observatory (ODDH) showed that unemployment increased by 24% between 2011 and 2017, in contrast to the rest of the national population.

The figures are from the report People with Disabilities in Portugal - Human Rights Indicators 2018, released in mid-December last year, and show that in 2017 there were 12,911 people with disabilities enrolled in employment centers, with only 11% having a job.

The report shows that people with severe disabilities are those with the lowest employment rates in Portugal, which stands at 35.6%, compared to 73.2% among people without disabilities.
