Call for participation until March 15 | General discussion on the right of persons with disabilities to work and employment

With the objective of drafting a General Comment on the right of persons with disabilities to work and employment, the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) invites all State Parties to the CRPD Convention, United Nations entities, specialized agencies, United Nations human rights mechanisms, non-governmental organizations, organizations of persons with disabilities, and other interested parties to submit their written or oral contributions by March 15, 2021, at the latest.

The general discussion will take place online (Kudo platform) on the 22nd and 24th of march, and it is part of the 24th session of the Committee that takes place from 8 to 26 March 2021. This edition, which will be partially open to the public*, will focus on discussing the rights of people with disabilities to work and employment.

The General Comments intend to provide specific guidance to States Parties to the CRPD on measures they should take to ensure compliance with their obligations to respect, protect and fulfill, with regard to respect to Article 27 of the Convention. The submissions should focus on the topics under discussion: (1) The challenges in implementing Article 27 of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities; (2) Best practices and recommendations on the right to work and employment for persons with disabilities.

The general discussion will take place online, through Kudo platform:
- March 22, 2021 (from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30; GVA time): The challenges in the implementation of Article 27;
- March 24, 2021 (from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30; GVA time): Best practices and recommendations on the right to work and employment for persons with disabilities.
