July 2015 | ODDH coordinated the ‘Parallel Report' on the Monitoring of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Portugal

The Disability and Human Rights Observatory (ODDH) in partnership with its Advisory Board prepared the ‘Parallel Report on the Monitoring of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Portugal’ which was submitted, in July 2015, to the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities of the United Nations.

This ‘Parallel Report’ - subscribed by 32 entities which are representative of 241 Disabled People Organizations – was a the response to the call of the involvement of the civil society on the monitoring of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (article 33 (3)).

The Portuguese State Official Report was also already submitted and also will be analyzed by the Committee.

Important dates about the monitoring of the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Portugal:

  • August 17 2015: the Portuguese ‘Parallel Report’ will be analyzed in a pre-session by the Working Group of the Committee, in order to prepare a list of issues that will be directed to the Portuguese State; ODDH representatives will do a brief presentation of the ‘Parallel Report’.
  • March/ April 2016: It will take place a constructive dialogue with the Portuguese State; Representatives of the ODDH will make a brief intervention to comment the situation of the human rights of persons with disabilities in Portugal and present their recommendations.
