On 2 December, the Observatory on Disability and Human Rights (ODDH) took part in the event “Portugal and the Rights of Persons with Disabilities: perceptions and challenges”, promoted by the National Monitoring Mechanism of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities – Me-CDPD, which took place at the António de Almeida Santos Auditorium, in the New Building of the Assembly of the Republic.
During the session, the ODDH team presented the preliminary results of the study “Attitudes and Perceptions of the Portuguese Adult Population on Disability”, promoted by the National Monitoring Mechanism for the Implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and carried out by ODDH, of the Institute of Social and Political Sciences of the University of Lisbon (ISCSP-ULisboa).
This study sought to understand what Portuguese society thinks about disability. For this purpose, a telephone questionnaire was conducted with a representative sample of the Portuguese population aged between 18 and 65 years. The fieldwork, which took place between 1 October and 30 October 2025, was carried out by E.M. Estudos de Mercado, and 1,000 valid responses were collected, in mainland Portugal and the islands, with a margin of error of ±3.10% at a 95% confidence level.
