December 2023 | Social benefits reduce the rate of people with disabilities at risk of poverty to nearly half

Nearly two-thirds of people with disabilities would have been at risk of poverty in 2022 without social benefits, compared with 35.5% of people without disabilities, according to a report by the Observatory on Disability, which highlights the inability to reduce these disparities.

The data appear in the report “People with Disabilities in Portugal – Human Rights Indicators 2023”, which states that there has been progress in access to employment for people with disabilities, but their vulnerability to poverty and social exclusion has increased.
