March 2021 | The Impact of the Pandemic on Persons with Disabilities

The year 2020 will certainly be marked by the pandemic crisis that has afflicted the world and transformed our lives. In the terrible backing of this crisis, other crises - social, economic, cultural, of care - soon emerged, creating new and complex challenges for societies across the planet. Portugal was no exception. And as with any other crisis, it is in the most vulnerable groups, including persons with disabilities and their families, that the negative effects of the difficult situation we face are most felt.

In order to know and depict this reality, the Disability and Human Rights Observatory (ODDH) has conducted, in 2020, two online surveys by questionnaire, which allowed us to collect data on the impacts of COVID-19 on living conditions and on the support received by people with disabilities and their families: the first study was carried out in the confinement phase (between April 27 and May 10, 2020) and the second already in the deconfinement phase (between 9 and 27 October 2020), involving a total of 1051 responses.
